SDC – Sorowako Diving Club

Pada tanggal 24 September 2008 gedung baru sekretariat SDC diresmikan. Sekretariat SDC dibangun di dekat gedung MYC, yacht club, tempat yang menjadi salah satu prasarana utama olahraga air di sorowako. Gedung ini merupakan hasil kerjasama SDC dan PT Inco diwakili GF&S Department yang mendukung kegiatan hobby lingkungan sorowako.

Digagas dan dimotori oleh Giliu Samoila, seorang member SDC yang sangat antusias, gedung ini dibangun sejak July 2008, dengan mempertimbangkan segala aspek yang berkaitan dengan kondisi lingkungan sekitar yacht club.

Secara simbolis sekretariat baru SDC diresmikan dan dibuka oleh Steve Wood (VP Operation PT Inco). Peresmian ini dihadiri oleh VP PT Inco pak Ciho Bangun dan pak Steve Wood (yang juga sekaligus anggota kehormatan SDC), member SDC, rekan2 dari SPC, rekan2 GF&S.

Acara dilanjutkan dengan tour facility sekretariat baru SDC, dan juga melihat2 galery foto2 SDC yang merupakan potret beberapa kontribusi SDC dalam kegiatan kepedulian dan pelestarian lingkungan, dan juga kegiatan2 rutin SDC sebagai wadah hobi scuba diving bagi lingkungan luwu timur.

From October 22-28, 2007, we’ve done a series of activity for Indonesia Reef 2007 in Luwu Timur. This is the first big event runs by our club, Sorowako Diving Club as the committee, supported by Pemkab Luwu Timur as the primary stakeholder in the area, and also PT Inco as the primary company runs in Luwu Timur area, working together with National Geographic Indonesia, volunteers and attended by major electronic media in Indonesia. The ceremony starts in Mangkasa Point, attended by all stakeholders including Luwu Timur Regent and PTI Management.

This activity is the expression of our concern as divers community with the environment in the area, mostly as those area are our “playground”. This is only the beginning, and we made the declaration of “Lestarikan Terumbu Karang Luwu Timur” with all related stakeholders for the follow up on reef conservation in this area.

On behalf of the Indonesia Reef 2007 committee I would like to express thanks to all stakeholders:

-         Pemkab Luwu Timur, especially to Andi Hatta Marakarma as Luwu Timur Regent

-         PT Inco management for all of the support provided

-         National Geographic who manage Indonesia Reef Program where this event is part of it’s activity series

-         Volunteer from Jakarta including our special guest Nadine Chandrawinata, and also scientist from Yayasan Reef Check Indonesia

-         Ody dive as our dive operator partner for this event

-         All of the media who sent their crew to this event : Trans TV, Trans 7, RCTI, SCTV, Kompas and Fajar

-         Last but not least, the great fellow divers from SDC (Sorowako Diving Club) who tirelessly manage this event and provide their dedication into it. Maulana Mahendra, Boy Adhitya, Imam Sutiyono, Judo Ungguling, Megawati Ihyamuis, Baharudin Mario, Selvy Yuminti, Basri, Fayez, Arnol and other SDC members of the committee, it’s great to manage this event along with all of you.

No matter how small the contributions we made, if we do it continuously and collectively, we’ll make the difference to the world.
